Too often these days games struggle to find that perfect balance between “too short” and “too bloated,” but if Sucker Punch’s recent statements are anything to go by, their upcoming open world game Ghost of Tsushima won’t suffer from that problem.

Speaking recently with Brazilian outlet Voxel, the game’s director Nate Fox talked briefly about how long players can expect it to be. According to Fox, pinning down a specific number for its length is hard, given the number of isolated optional activities in the game. Fox said that during playtests, several players did not finish the story because they got caught up in the game’s exploration aspects.

“It is a difficult question to answer, because the world is a large space with several isolated side stories,” he said. “We did several tests with people playing about 6 and a half hours a day and the results were very different. Many did not finish the main story because they were busy exploring other aspects of the game.”

When asked if the game would last over 40-50 hours if players engaged with its side content, Fox confirmed the same, before adding that though the main story would take a shorter amount of time, players will be encouraged to explore Tsushima thoroughly.

“Yes, absolutely,” he said. “But I would highly recommend that everyone get off the main route and get lost on the island of Tsushima, since there is a lot to discover there.”

Ghost of Tsushima is out for the PS4 on July 17, and will require at least 50 GB of storage space on your console. Check out its recent gameplay deep dive through here.
