As the only remaining upcoming PS4 exclusive with a firm release date, there’s a lot riding on Ghost of Tsushima, but thankfully, the game’s looking excellent in all that we’ve seen of it so far, especially in the last few months. Recently, more details on the game emerged in the Official PlayStation Magazine’s May 2020 issue (compiled over at Reddit), and Sucker Punch’s upcoming open world title continues to sound promising.

Gameplay details on combat, stealth, and open world exploration in particular have been revealed. Ghost of Tsushima, as you may have guessed, puts a lot of emphasis on stealth, with protagonist Jin having to adopt more vigilante-like methods to fight against overwhelming odds and free Tsushima from the invading Mongol forces.

Players can use a hookshot to get about environments and pick enemies off one by one, while Jin also has several other stealth-focused abilities at his disposal, such as stabbing them from behind through closed folding screens, which we’ve actually seen a glimpse of in one of the trailers. He also as several gadgets in his arsenal, including sticky bombs and fire arrows.

Of course, players can also engage in one-on-one direct combat, should they so choose. Fights are described as quick and decisive, and it seems Sucker Punch have devoted a lot of attention to gore and blood spatter, especially from a visual perspective.

Even more interesting are the new details on the game’s open world and how it’s explored. It’s been confirmed that Ghost of Tsushima’s open world has no waypoints or markers, and players instead traverse locations based on landmarks and their memories and knowledge of the environment. What’s also interesting is that time in the story will continue to pass even as you explore the open world and take on side activities, and titles within the game will regularly pop up to inform you of how much time has passed since the Mongol invasion began.

Ghost of Tsushima is due out for the PS4 on June 26. Whether or not it will hit that release date has been questioned of late, especially with The Last of Us Part 2 having been delayed, but Sony have said that for now they have no other delays to announce.
