Dragon’s Dogma 2 has launched on the back of more than a decade of anticipation, and though the action RPG has enjoyed widespread critical acclaim and attracted players in large numbers right out the gate, it has also attracted its fair share of controversy. In the immediate aftermath of its release, players discovered an in-game microtransactions store that Capcom made no mention of prior to launch, selling things such as fast travel items, character customization options, and more for real money.

Unsurprisingly, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been on the receiving end of widespread backlash, in response to which Capcom has published an update on the game’s Steam page, addressing a number of complaints from players.

Where microtransactions are concerned, unfortunately, “addressed” is a bit of a strong word, with Capcom merely acknowledging their existence and stating that a number of the items sold in the in-game store can also be earned through gameplay. There’s no mention of why the store wasn’t mentioned prior to the game’s launch, and whether the company intends to alter the game’s monetization approach to address the community’s criticism.

Capcom has also spoken about the game’s PC performance issues, reiterating that it’s working on fixes. “A large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and calculating the impact of their physical presence in various areas,” the company says. “In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate. We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.”

Meanwhile, Capcom also says it’s working on fixes for “critical problems such as crashes and freezing”. The company says, “We will be addressing crashes and bug fixes starting from those with the highest priority in patches in the near future.”

The game’s Steam version will also be adding the option to start new saves with a future update.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Read our review of the game through here.
