Xbox Series X Design “Works Vertical or Horizontal” – Phil Spencer

It doesn't HAVE to be a PC tower.

Microsoft’s reveal of the Xbox Series X – previously known as Project Scarlett – at The Game Awards was perhaps the biggest surprise of the show, and it certainly got people talking about the next gen console. Most of the conversation (and memes) are surrounded on the console’s name, and on its monolithic structure, and how it looks like a PC tower (or two GameCubes stacked on top of each other).

But if you’re worried that the pillar-shaped console might not fit into your entertainment unit, or that you’ll have to make room to place the unusually shaped system in your unit, don’t be. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox and Microsoft’s gaming division, says that the console has been designed so that it can be placed both, vertically and horizontally.

“The first thing I wanted to say is the [Xbox Series X’s] design works vertical or horizontal, just like the Xbox One S and Xbox One X,” Spencer told GameSpot. “We think that it’s not our job to dictate the orientation of our console in your home. That is up to you.”

Given that the system’s fan vent is on its top when placed vertically, that’s something that might factor into your decision of how you want to place it, one way or another. Unless you want it to overheat and implode, that is.

Spencer recently gave some other details on the system as well, including its new, improved controller, which now (finally) comes with a share button. Read more on that through here. Meanwhile, you can get more info on its specs through here.

The Xbox Series X is launching Holiday 2020, with Halo Infinite as a launch title.
