It looks like the rumors were right about this, too- the Nintendo Switch will be powered by NVIDIA, the company confirmed today. The system uses a custom NVIDIA Tegra chip, which specializes in efficiency and scalability. This is ‘based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards,’ NVIDIA says.

The Switch’s development tools also apparently get assistance from NVIDIA, who will be offering a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA apparently developed a brand new API, NVN, specifically for the NX.

That’s not all, either- the Switch benefits from hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering. And given the system’s hybrid status, NVIDIA have optimized the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases, which includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.

So it sounds like the Switch, at least, won’t be lacking in power- it already seems to be getting the same third party games that Xbox One and PS4 are. It is due out in March 2017 worldwide.
