MultiVersus

After releasing in open beta in 2022MultiVersus was available for players to dive into for nearly a year, but after going offline in June the following year, the game went almost entirely MIA. The free-to-play Smash Bros.-inspired fighter certainly drew some criticism due to its server issues, aggressive monetiztion, and lackluster progression (among other things), but it was also massively popular, and soon, it’ll be making its return to the limelight.

WB Games and developer Player First Games have announced that MultiVersus will be getting its full release on May 28. The game will be returning with plenty of significant changes and additions, as you’d expect after its long absence. For starters, it’s moved to Unreal Engine 5, and will also feature revamped netcode to make for a “world class online experience,” according to game director and Player First Games co-founder Tony Hyunh.

You can also look forward to new content in the form of new fighters (like the Powerpuff Girls) and new stages (like Dexter’s Laboratory and Townsville), while existing characters are also being given new attacks and mechanics. Beyond that, a key new addition will be an entirely new PvE mode that will “introduce additional ways of playing with unique rewards.”

You can watch the developer update video below for more details from Hyunh.

Upon release, MultiVersus will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
