Remedy Entertainment is prepping for the release of Alan Wake 2, its long-awaited horror follow-up to the 2010 cult classic, with recent gameplay showcasing Wake’s Writing Room and the Oceanview Hotel. However, the developer has several other projects in development, including Control 2  (with Alan Wake 2 setting up its story) and a remake for Max Payne 1 and 2.

The latter moved to the proof of concept stage in April this year, and when speaking to VGC in a new interview, creative director Sam Lake confirmed it to be a “significant undertaking.” “It is a significant undertaking in the sense that even if they are old games, just thinking about bringing them up to modern standards and combining them into one, you can see that it’s a big, big project.”

Will Lake reprise his role as Max Payne? He responded, “No comment! That’s going too far.” Given that he appears in Alan Wake 2 as Alex Casey, a hard-boiled detective inspired by Payne and the protagonist of Wake’s book series, it’s certainly possible.

Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s utilizing the Northlight Engine with Rockstar Games’ funding and publishing the title while handling marketing and distribution. There’s no release date, so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
