We’ve known for a long time that Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima would be an open world game, but what that means can vary from game to game. While the title is said to be Sucker Punch’s biggest ever, what does that translate to? While the Infamous titles that preceded Ghost were open and of good size, it’s probably not what most people consider ‘big’ by today’s standards. Well, we probably won’t really know for sure until we get this in our own hands, but Game Director Nate Fox is making huge promises, literally.

Speaking to IGN, Fox assured people that the game’s world would be a huge one. He said that the recent State of Play was a “zoomed in” version of the map, mostly focusing on the game’s starting area (for reference, you can see that video through here). He continued on to say that it would feature a variety of landscapes from snowy mountains to bamboo forests. Maybe even more important than all that, apparently this won’t just be an empty mass, it will be filled with enemies and activities.

“The map we showed during the State of Play was VERY zoomed in. That was just a little portion of the starting area, the actual map is huge,” Fox said. “Tsushima Island covers the biomes you can find on main land Japan, from snowy mountains to bamboo forests, to waterfalls and rolling grasslands, it’s all there. We want to give enough stuff to keep it electrifying for the player. We didn’t want to make a huge map and have nothing on it. So it’s packed with people, items and stories to explore.”

Ghost of Tsushima will release only on PlayStation 4 July 17th.
