Media Molecule’s supremely ambitious and long-in-development title Dreams is a game we’ve been waiting for literally an entire generation- but finally it’s here. The game’s flexible, incredibly deep, and yet surprisingly intuitive creation tools have already swept many of their feet, but as Media Molecule and Sony have suggested beforeDreams is a game that’s going to be supported for a long, long time to come.

So now that a milestone as major as the game’s launch is out of the way, what do the developers have planned next? Well, Media Molecule have their sights set on the two major updates they’ll be making to the game in the near future. Speaking in an interview with VGC, Mark Healey – co-founder of Media Molecule and creative director on Dreams – said the first of these is going to be virtual reality support and VR content.

“Absolutely,” Healey said when asked if Media Molecule were planning on supporting the game for the coming years. “As long as it gets some traction and Sony are behind us—which I think they certainly are—then absolutely. We treat it as a platform, this isn’t like we’ve made a game, ‘what are we going to do next?’ Releasing it is just one stop along the road really. We want to carry on supporting it. We’re currently working on VR, so we’re going to do a VR update with VR content.”

So when can we expect that VR content, then? Well, pretty soon, as per Healey.

“Just as soon as possible,” he said. “I’ll probably get in trouble if I try and say a date, but literally as soon as possible.”

Media Molecule, in fact, are also working toward their next big goal after VR- letting players make multiplayer games.

“That’s probably the next thing after that I’d say,” Healey said when asked about multiplayer. “I mean, always take that with a pinch of salt, because we’ve got a community now and we’re trying to respond to them as much as possible, so sometimes they might have a bigger demand but they’re currently VR and multiplayer online, as in the ability to make multiplayer online games.”

Dreams is out now for PS4. In this same interview, Healey also spoke about Dreams potentially allowing user-created content to be sold as isolated, standalone games on the PlayStation Store. He also spoke about the possibility of Dreams releasing on PS5 and PC down the line.
